Even Tony Blair knows Reutlingen

During a visit to Tecnologico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, a university which has partnerships with several of the faculties of Reutlingen University, Blair gave an interview to the BBC and talked about the influence of globalisation on education and increasing competition between universities in different countries and on different continents.

Concerning globalisation, Blair sees four main trends:

First, universities are striving to establish long-term and sustainable partnerships to universities abroad. In this context, Blair mentioned the international programmes of Tec de Monterrey, among them the joint degree programmes involving the Mexican University and Reutlingen University (International Business at ESB Business School and Applied Chemistry at the School of Applied Chemistry). Here, Reutlingen was mentioned in the same sentence as such renowned institutions as Carnegie Mellon University in the US and Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands.

Second, universities are increasingly aware of the fact that almost all academic questions can be considered from a global angle. Third, globalisation has made university campusses as international as never before. Fourth, never before could such a large number of people gain access to education as in this age of advanced technologies for learning and education, mentioning as an example the Virtual University of Tecnologico de Monterrey.
