Merger 2008

“As a member of the Board of Daimler AG, I am responsible for Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses, and experience every day just how challenging a global environment can be, which makes me all the happier about every sustainable achievement we make.  However, no matter how pleased we are with any achievement, we must never rest on our laurels, but keep working hard to achieve constant improvement.

Reutlingen University works in the same way: no matter how successful they have been, how many prizes they have won, how well they have performed in all the rankings, they still keep trying hard to become even better.  And one of the successes they have achieved along this way has been the merger of the formerly three Business faculties to form ESB Business School Reutlingen, on which I should like to offer them my warmest congratulations!

I am firmly convinced that this decision and its energetic implementation are setting the right trend for the future.  This merger will create even more advantages for the already highly successful Reutlingen University:

  • The wide-ranging product portfolio will make Reutlingen more attractive for many students.  Every student will be able to choose in the field of international management between study options with a range of cutting edge specialisations.
  • In the light of ever-increasing globalisation, the integrated semesters abroad are, in my opinion, an essential part of students’ education.  The experience of living and studying in another country will be unforgettable.  As well as actively developing language skills, students will also achieve a tolerance and understanding of other cultures; essential qualities in a world in which we are in daily contact with people from such a wide range of different backgrounds.
  • The fact that study programmes are so closely geared to the real world of business gives students the opportunity to gain real experience at an early stage, and gives companies the opportunity to get to know possible new recruits.   A clear advantage for both parties.

As a representative of industry, I find it very good to know that at Reutlingen University, every year, around 2,000 young people are being prepared in this way for their professional careers.

I am sure that the merger of the Business Studies schools will enable  Reutlingen University to become an even stronger competitor and to enjoy even more success in Germany and internationally.

I support the merger of the Business Schools at Reutlingen University, and I am very happy to be able to serve as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of this successful and active university.

With very best wishes to ESB Reutlingen for a great new start,"

Andreas Renschler, Executive Director, Daimler Trucks Division

"Only companies with clear vision and clear objectives succeed. Our forward-looking company needs people with good, practical education and international professional experience. ESB Reutlingen offers excellent university education, and in merging the three business schools, Reutlingen has created a comprehensive product portfolio of Business Studies and Engineering Management  programmes. We are looking forward to continuing fruitful cooperation with ESB."

Michael Müller, CEO, MBtech Consulting

“I was very pleased to hear about the merger of the business schools at Reutlingen University into ESB Business School. I think that is the perfect step to take ESB from being an excellent German business school to becoming an internationally recognised business school. Congratulations on this visionary and courageous decision!”

Daniel Nothelfer, Nordic Capital, ESB graduate, German-French Programme, 2001

“The focus at IBM is on innovation.  With our products and solutions we always want to be a step ahead of our customers’ challenging expectations.  We seek future members of staff who are highly qualified, with practical training and international experience.  We look to ESB graduates as a source of our success.  We are therefore very pleased that after the merger of the business schools, Reutlingen University will be able to offer an even wider range of study programmes in Business and Engineering Management.”

Erwin Jung, Head of IBM and Service Science, Germany

“The latest league tables confirm once again Reutlingen University’s excellent reputation for practical, international degree programmes and further education for business managers and specialists.  At a time when increasing demands are being placed on universities, Reutlingen University has achieved an important step towards further optimisation.  The merger of the three Business faculties will bring about a beneficial concentration of competence and experience in international business education.  The merger will enable a wider range of study programmes to be offered and more specialised concentration on specific subjects.  I think the increased interaction between the 18 study programmes will be especially advantageous.  It will now be possible to give students an even better preparation for the challenges facing internationally active enterprises such as Robert Bosch GmbH.”

Dr. Wolfgang Malchow, CEO and Director of Works, Robert Bosch GmbH

“My most sincere congratulations on the founding of the new Business School!  I am sure that ESB has achieved a significant step forward into an even better future and will continue to be a champion of quality in higher education.”

Jan-David Kohrt, Senior Associate, McKinsey & Company

“Congratulations. This is a big step forward. ESB is making history.”

Talha Yesilhark, Deutsche Bank AG, Regional Management, Dubai International Financial Centre

“The internationalisation of the economy, with its global logistics chains, calls for the interaction of all disciplines in the world of work, beyond national borders.  Higher education also has to respond to this development by making the contents of study programs more integrative and interdisciplinary, with a strong international orientation.

The merger of two Business Schools and the School of Engineering Management at Reutlingen sends a clear signal that this university is meeting the challenges of globalisation.  The merger offers students even more opportunities for interdisciplinary, international studies in Business and Technology to meet the needs of the market at the highest level.  The very good international reputation already enjoyed by ESB will be further enhanced by this move.  The Willi Betz Group of Companies welcomes this move and will continue to offer its active support.

We wish the new ESB Business School every success!”

Dr. Andreas Bunz, Management Spokesman, Willi Betz Group of Companies

“As one of the three leading world Strategy Consultants, Bain and Company profit from the very well-educated students from ESB Reutlingen.  The combination of practical experience, business expertise, and internationality makes ESB especially interesting.  ESB students acquire more practical work experience (some of it international) during their studies than students in other programmes, attend classes at schools in other countries, and complete their studies in a relatively short time.  We have been able to take a large number of ESB graduates as trainees and consultants, and look forward to continuing to do so in future.”
