Study Abroad
The Master's programme in Logistics Management has an international orientation and aims at enabling the student manage international logistics networks. Therefore, the school supports all students in the programme by offering exchange opportunities with partner universities of the school or the university. So far these opportunities have been extensively, in consequence about 85% of all students in the MSc Production Management / MSc Logistics Management have spent a semester abroad and have extended their international competences.
Apart from the school's partner universities in
| Tec de Monterrey, Monterrey/Mexico (2-3 places per semester) |
| Kettering University, Kettering, MI/USA (1-2 places per semester) |
| SPJain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, India (2 places per semester)
Donghua University, Shanghai, China (2 places per semester) |
there is a great number of other universities worldwide where our MSc-students have spent a semester:
| Sydney, Australia |
| London,UK |
| Göteborg, Sweden |
| S. Louis Obispo, USA |
| Port Elizabeth, South Africa |
As future MSc-graduates the students are themselves responsible for organising their semester abroad, since thus they can demonstrate their ability to work independently - a skill which each MSc-graduate should have. However, the school supports the students' search for study opportunities abroad.
For planning a semester abroad the following steps are compulsory:
Exchange information with older students, who have already been abroad.
Collect information about partner universities (e.g. by studying their websites).
Choose the desired partner university and, depending on the partner, contact Ms Trost (Heike.Trost@Reutlingen-University.de; + 49 (0) 7121/ 271 3026) for application details. If you want to apply at a university which is not a partner university you must collect information independently.
Since there is only a limited number of places available at all partner universities, ALL applications from PM an LM master students must be handed in to Ms Trost. After the closing date the heads of programme decide who will be allowed to apply at which university. For students who go abroad to study at a university partner for which the International Office is responsible, the International Office has the right to put in a veto. Moreover, the usual selection procedures, such as interview (Kettering University and ITESM Monterrey) which have been defined by the International Office must be observed.
Closing dates for application for abroad in the master programmes PM and LM are always the semesters which precede the stay abroad. The deadlines are:
- 10 March for the following winter semester
- 10 October for the following summer semester
Please hand in the following documents with your application:
- application form of desired partner university
- Curriculum vitae
- Bachelor diploma with average grade
- list of current grades from the master programme
- completed form for the recognition of lectures attended abroad
Students are chosen by the heads of programme in correspondence with the International Office
Coordination of lectures you plan to attend as substitutes for the lectures in Reutlingen with the responsible head of programme on the basis of the form for the acceptance of lectures attended abroad. The final decision about the recognition of the courses to be attended abroad is made solely by the head of programme. Only when this form has been signed, the semester abroad is officially approved by the school.
The school or the International Office pass the application forms to the partner universities.
All other applications must be organised by the students themselves. Especially the following aspects might be of relevance: DAAD or Erasmus scholarships, waiving of tuition fess (if you are charged a tuition fee by the university abroad), visa application, etc.
If you need a letter of recommendation for applying for a DAAD scholarship please refer to your head of programme (Prof. Augustin).
The students who go abroad must report absent for the semester spent abroad because otherwise they will have to write exams in Reutlingen. Especially at universities which are not partners of Reutlingen University it is compulsory for the student to enrol at the university abroad. Attending lectures as a guest is not possible! Students will have to supply official documents about the exams they have taken abroad, which can only be obtained through enrolment. If the university abroad charges tuition fees then the student can apply for the waiving of tuition fees at the Reutlingen student support office.
After returning from abroad the original certificates about exams have to be handed in to the examinations officer. The student is responsible for handing in the documents in time.
