Why study in Reutlingen?
As a Mexican whose home city is an industrial city, I need to be prepared for the demands of global business, which is why I decided to obtain a Master in Production Management. As I seek excellence in everything I do, I also want to have the best education and training to assure my success. Therefore, I chose Reutlingen University because of its unparalleled reputation in Production Management both in Germany and worldwide. I have a special interest in the Production Management program because it is especially designed for students like me, who wish to become experts in this area. In addition, the duration of the courses, the case study method used, and the project-oriented work at Reutlingen University, the classes that are given in conjunction with the local industry; emphasize the practical experience I seek. From my exposure to German industries and my interaction with other students, I will enrich my international experience. The knowledge that the Reutlingen University can give me, will complement my present skills, in order to meet my needs and secure my success as a businesswoman.

The Master’s programme in Production Management provides students with the newest concepts and teachings in an attractive and practice-oriented setting. The department is comprised of very dedicated professors, who carry many years of work experience in their fields of expertise. It is very common that our professors share interesting work experiences during lectures, which provide helpful guidance to a student's professional future. I was very excited to learn some new concepts and methodologies concerning the optimization of the supply chain during my first semester. I am very optimistic that this Master degree will open the doors for me to work in the field of production management.

I decided to come to Germany for several reasons. First of all, the challenge of living in a country with an entirely different culture, not to mention the language, seemed interesting. Also, Germany is well-known for its industrial success, especially in fields such as Process Engineering and Chemistry, which made this option very attractive for me since I was planning to do an internship during my stay (which I got at Procter & Gamble). Finally, the opportunity to visit Europe was an important decision factor as well. Specifically, I chose Reutlingen University due to its proven quality, academic subjects’ options, and location within Germany. The first two of such factors were mainly reaffirmed through word of mouth by other ITESM students that had been already here. The university’s location in Baden-Württemberg was relevant too, as some German professors in Mexico had told us about the state’s prosperity, quality of life, and many industrial companies. After being here for almost six months as I write this letter, I am confident that I made the right choice.
Being more specific, I joined the course Industrial Ecology since I do believe it will help me both as an engineer and as a person in the future. I do feel I learned a lot of interesting and applicable concepts, from both a professional and personal point of view. The fact that I come from a developing country makes it even more interesting since many of such concepts could be useful to help our country grow in a sustainable way and not to apply the “grow now, fix later” principle. It is no doubt that I will highly recommend this course to other students visiting Reutlingen University (but please, not at 7:30 in the morning!!).
Finally, I must thank the German and US students that made this class interactive and more interesting, as we all had different backgrounds and, therefore, different perspectives and points of view. I would also like to thank our professor for his insight, time, and for showing us how otherwise apparently complex concepts can be relatively easily applied to help protect the environment, which, at the end of the day, is our only home.

The drivers for my decision to study in Germany were many. Not only was it a great opportunity for a change of atmosphere after 3 years of college, but also a chance to prove myself in many different levels. At Reutlingen University I found many challenges that made my stay interesting starting from day 1. The first thing to overcome is of course, the language barrier. But as soon as you make some German friends you’re already on the other side, and then you’ll have time to concentrate and enjoy the possibilities that are available here in difference to your hometown. Perhaps there’s a new lecture, or the chance for an internship, a lab research in a field you’re not experienced at...that’s where you should profit from!
Germany is not just “anywhere” If there is one thing I’m definitely taking home, it’s the German philosophy of improvement. If it can be done better, let’s do it better. If we can look further, then do look further. And if you’re sitting around wasting time… ...better take action right now!
