On the Reutlingen campus, there are usually a lot of international faces to be seen. Not only students from all over the world come to Reutlingen, but also lecturers. In the context of the international guest lecturer programme, ESB Business School regularly welcomes lecturers from abroad.

One of them is Dr Pri Hermawan from Bandung, Indonesia. His home university, School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB), is one of 120 international partner universities of ESB. ESB students who choose the Double Degree Track in the BSc International Operations and Logistics Management (IOLM) can even study at SBM ITB from the 5th semester up to and including the 8th semester and graduate with two degrees, one from ESB and one from SBM ITB.

In Reutlingen, Dr Pri Hermawan currently teaches Statistics for IOLM students as well as “Advanced Operational Reseach: Decision Analysis and Game Theory” in the MSc Operations Management programme. So, during his three-month stay at ESB Business School, students not only profit from Dr. Hermawan`s expertise in business statistics, they also have the chance to gather first-hand information on Indonesia, a booming region in which logistics plays an increasingly important role.

We recently dropped in on one of Dr Hermawan`s classes and asked him a couple of short questions about his stay in Reutlingen and his hometown Bandung:

Is this your first time in Reutlingen? "This is my second time in Reutlingen. Last August, I accompanied SBM ITB students who joined a one-week summer school here at ESB Business School."

How do you like Reutlingen? "Reutlingen is a nice city. I love that I can use a rented bicycle to go to and from my accommodation to campus. And because ESB is a good school, I am honoured to be able to have the experience to teach here."

What is your hometown Bandung like? "Bandung is the capital city of West Java province, so it is busy. In the weekend, it has become a favourite destination for Jakarta residents due to its natural highland cool climate, variety of foods, and many historical buildings. It is a lovely city."

Some of ESB´s future business engineers might want to work in or with Indonesia after they graduate. What should they know about Indonesia? "I think the most important is to learn about the culture. Diverse cultural backgrounds, and the strong Indonesian religious identity are some aspects foreigners should show an understanding of if they want to work in Indonesia."

Dr Pri Hermawan`s semester in Reutlingen ends at the end of May. His stay takes place within the framework of the project „Business Engineering in South East Asia“ of ESB Business School in cooperation with partner universities in South East Asia. The project is sponsored by the DAAD with funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
