A Taste of Germany Day

MSc in Global Management & Digital Competencies Programme (MGM) students are exploring the surroundings of Reutlingen

by Julie Dengler and Alfred Max

As part of the networking activities at the start of the MGM semester in Reutlingen, our 18 MGM students (from France, Germany, Mexico, Italy and India) spent an entire day learning about some of the tastes, cultural gems & local companies their new surrounding have to offer.

The day started with a chilly guided tour through a local monastery near Tübingen - Bebenhausen Monastery which was founded in 1180 and & the adjoining hunting castle section which was used in the 1800’s by the Wurttemberg Kings as an elite hunting lodge. Afterwards, the group warmed-up in the café at Museum Ritter Sport in Waldenbuch over lunch and learned about what this world-renowned chocolate factory has to offer. The highlight was learning to make their own chocolate through the chocolate-making workshop they took part in. Some of their creations may make it into the stores someday! Gummy bears and marshmallows in a rich chocolate Ritter Sport bar for example! What else is Germany famous for? Beer of course! The student’s final attraction was a guided tour and product sampling at Schimpf Brauerei in Remmingsheim, which has been family-owned and run since 1870. After enjoying their freshly tapped beer right out of the brewery’s tanks, they finished off their evening with good Swabian food at the Neckarmüller Brewery/restaurant in Tübingen.
