Let's Relay!

17 students, 1,700 kilometres, 1 ESB Spirit. In around two months` time, students from the BSc International Management Double Degree programme will once again be pedalling for a good cause in the ESB Cycling for Charity fundraising bike tour – for the 20th time. With the start of the summer semester 2023, the team will soon begin the crucial training and preparation stage. The destination this time will be the Spanish port of Alicante.  

Where are they heading?

This year and in line with tradition, the location of the International Business Weekend, an international student meeting of the IPBS network, will also be the destination of the ESB Cycling for Charity tour. At the end of March, the 17-member team will set off from Reutlingen University towards the French border. During the two-week tour, the squad will cross the whole of France and cover quite a distance along the Spanish coast.  

What are they cycling for?

During the run-up and the entire tour, the students are raising funds for two regional donation partners:

For many years, the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder Tübingen e.V. (Friends’ Association of Children with Cancer Tübingen) has been supporting children with cancer and their families at the paediatric clinic in Tübingen. 

Integramus e.V. is a friends’ association in Reutlingen that is committed to helping orphans in Africa and also provides help with integration in Germany.

How is the preparation going?

In the coming weeks, the cyclists will prepare intensively for the rigours of the tour. But not only physical fitness will be enhanced: The students will also be responsible for planning the exact route, the organisation of accommodation and the entire logistics of the tour. With the acquisition of sponsors and events during the run-up, they will quickly fill the donation box. Highlights so far of this year’s Relay have been assisting at a stand at the Reutlingen Christmas market and selling sweet treats at the Christmas party at Reutlingen University.
