Digital Hub Lecture: Introduction to Additive Manufacturing

Digital Hub Presentation: Introduction to additive manufacturing

Introduction to additive manufacturing: potential applications, processes and possibilities in an industrial environment

  • Do you know what lies behind the technology of additive manufacturing?
  • Are you aware of different application areas and different manufacturing processes in the area of additive manufacturing?
  • Can you imagine what technical and economic potentials accompany additive manufacturing and what components are suitable for additive manufacturing?

At the beginning of the lecture “Introduction to additive manufacturing“ you will become familiar with the fundamental process for the manufacture of additive components and presented with different manufacturing processes within additive manufacturing technology. At the same time you will be shown both the advantages and disadvantages of individual manufacturing processes and for which components the manufacturing processes are suitable.

In addition, this lecture will also include a presentation of various application areas of additive manufacturing as well as individual best-practice examples.

Further, you will be introduced to both the technical and economic characteristics of additive manufacturing and the lecture will end with the joint test print of an additive component.

Aims of the lecture

  • To get to know additive manufacturing technology
  • To demonstrate different manufacturing processes as well as their advantages and disadvantages
  • Description of potential application areas in SMEs.
  • Presentation of technical and economic characteristics

Length: 120 minutes

Speaker: Marc Guldin, M. Sc.
