Digital Hub Lecture: Presentation of the SLS and SLM Additive Manufacturing Processes

Introduction and deployment of SLS and SLM methods which are usable for series manufacturing, taking into account technical, organisational and economic aspects

  • Do you know what lies behind SLS and SLM manufacturing processes?
  • Are you familiar with the design guidelines for additive components in the SLS and SLM processes so that taking into account the entire process chain the manufacture of the components can be carried out in a practical way?
  • Do you know what technical, organisational and personal aspects should be taken into account when using the SLS and SLM processes?
  • Do you know what an automated process chain in additive manufacturing might look like using the SLS process?

At the beginning of the lecture you will receive an introduction to SLS and SLM additive manufacturing processes and then a description of design guidelines for the production of additive components using the SLS and SLM processes so that the components can be manufactured efficiently taking into account the entire process chain. In addition, you will be introduced to technical, organisational and personal aspects which should be taken into account when using the SLS and SLM processes.

Moreover, what an automated additive process chain might look like using the SLS process will be explained to you as well as what subsequent processing steps are required. Further, you will be shown some examples and what potentials the SLS and SLM processes have regarding industrial value-added chains.

Finally, there will also be an opportunity to see an SLS system as well as sample parts.

Aims of the lecture:

  • To get to know SLS and SLM additive manufacturing processes
  • To demonstrate design guidelines for additive components in SLS and SLM processes
  • To describe how the process chain in additive manufacturing can be automated
  • Introduction of potentials in SLS and SLM processes regarding industrial value-added chains

Length: 90 min.

Speaker: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Nebeling
