13 days, 1,100 kilometres, 30 highly motivated cyclists: The start of this year’s Cycling for Charity tour is Reutlingen, the finish on Borkum. The cyclists are setting off on Easter Saturday. last Thursday, they said goodbye with an event on the Reutlingen University campus.

Cheerleaders, music, calls of encouragement, bicycle horns: There was a great atmosphere when the Cycling for Charity cyclists said goodbye on the campus. No wonder: The thirty-strong student team are about to depart on a grand cycling adventure.

For the spectators it is easy to see that they are all highly motivated and that the team spirit is fantastic. “Sharing a common goal like this is really fun“, confirms Goof Lawa, who is responsible in the organisation team for planning the route and logistics.

For the fifteenth time in a row students from the Bachelor International Management Double Degree (IMX) programme have organised the mega Cycling for Charity tour. Each time the students head for a different place, the chosen route is always demanding. This time it passes through Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands to the island of Borkum. There the 2018 International Business Weekend (IBWE) is taking place, an annual meeting of all IMX partner universities and the traditional finish of the cycle tour.

But the tour is not only about the sporting challenge and the event; the cyclists also collect donations for charitable causes. Many charity activities were organised in the run-up to the tour and further activities during the tour are planned. The proceeds will go the Reutlingen association Integramus e.V., which supports social projects in Africa, and to the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder Tübingen e.V. (Charity for Children with Cancer).

In his speech, Anton Hofmann, chairman of the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder Tübingen e.V., thanked the cyclists for their commitment and emphasised that “it is something very special when young people who enjoy a good life care about and are committed to helping those who are less fortunate.”
