BSc International Management Double Degree celebrates its first graduates in the German-Chinese link

By: Chantal Köngeter

Four years ago Kevin Zhang and Benjamin Wasitschek enrolled for the International Management BSc Double Degree German-Chinese programme at ESB Business School, Reutlingen University. In 2014 the first students were recruited for this degree programme – unique in Germany – so they were among the forerunners right from the very start.

On 26 June 2018 the two students celebrated their Chinese graduation in Beijing at ESB Business School’s partner university, the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE, 对外经济贸易大学).

The other students of the first year have to wait until next year to graduate. This is because Kevin Zhang and Benjamin Wasitschek already had an excellent command of Chinese at the beginning of their studies in Reutlingen so that they were able to skip the language training year in Beijing. After completing two years of basic studies and an internship in Germany, they were able to continue with their specialised studies directly in Beijing. The students also completed an internship in China so that they have already had their first work experience in both countries. Besides attending lectures held only in Chinese, Benjamin Wasitschek even wrote his bachelor thesis in Mandarin (普通话). With these cultural, work and life experiences, the graduates are perfectly equipped for the world of work in a German-Chinese context.

"We are proud of our trailblazers who even graduated ahead of the pioneering year. It certainly wasn’t easy and you had to overcome many challenges. But now all doors are open to you, both in the academic and professional environment and we congratulate you on this very special achievement”, Chantal Köngeter, degree programme coordinator in the German-Chinese link, is delighted to say.
