Bringing together the ideas of clever students, renowned companies and scientists at ESB Business School – this was the goal exactly 20 years ago pursued by the founding members of the Association for the Promotion of International Management Training (V.I.M.A. e.V.). On 28 September 1999 the companies joined forces in an association with the aim of helping ESB Business School to establish contacts between theory and practice. Meanwhile around 50 national and international companies, including founding members such as L’Oréal, Procter & Gamble, PwC Strategy& GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG support the management training at ESB Business School.

Bianca Fecker, who is the link in the Career Center between V.I.M.A. partners and students, views the cooperation as a success: “The companies provide us with information about trends in industry which would otherwise only be noticed later at the university. For example, the skills and job profiles which are in demand today. Each V.I.M.A. member is allocated a professor as a strategic advisor. This dialogue allows the trends to be integrated into our degree programmes. Thus our teaching is up to date and is in a continual state of development.“

The students at ESB Business School benefit from practice-oriented teaching in the lectures, numerous projects and the contacts to the business world. At ESB’s annual career fairs, the International Business Fair (IBF) and the Company Forum (FIFO) which is held exclusively for V.I.M.A. members, the corporate partners meet the students in person. Many students pursue a career in the companies which are involved in the V.I.M.A e.V. “The V.I.M.A. partnership with many well-known and successful companies enable students to obtain internships which open doors and establish important contacts in the professional world“, confirms Timon von Hanko, who graduated in the BSc International Management Double Degree programme at ESB in 2018.

Close cooperation with students and professors in corporate projects and case studies provides the corporate partners with a valuable knowledge transfer between theory and practice. Many management innovations or results from applied research are subsequently directly integrated into everyday working life. Moreover, ESB students are very much in demand from V.I.M.A. partners as employees. “The companies appreciate our students. They know what they’re getting if someone has a degree from ESB. The graduates have already gathered practical work experience during the course, have worked in an international environment and have acquired valuable soft skills”, says Bianca Fecker.

This is confirmed by Christoph Kübel, Member of the Board of Management and Director of Industrial Relations at Robert Bosch GmbH: “For many years Robert Bosch GmbH has closely cooperated with ESB Business School. We appreciate especially the excellent teaching and the international orientation at ESB. The graduates are optimally prepared for the job market and thus extremely interesting as potential employees for Bosch.“

V.I.M.A. Chairman Professor Taschner thanks the companies for the cooperation: “It is impossible to imagine ESB’s practical orientation without the wide-ranging involvement of our partner companies. The V.I.M.A. e.V. is an essential element of what makes ESB so unique. Our thanks to all those who have contributed to this. We look forward to continuing this cooperation!“
