Welcome, Professor Schwarz!

The MBA International Management programmes receive a new lecturer

As of this semester Professor Dr Jan Oliver Schwarz will be enhancing the team of professors in the area of strategic management and management. His research comprises the fields of strategic foresight, dynamic capabilities, cultural products in management and design thinking. “I am fascinated primarily by the question of what companies in a VUCA world (VUCA stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) are developing strategies and creative solutions for pressing problems. Increasing momentum with respect to the future demands more long-term strategic thinking and creative approaches on the part of companies,” says Professor Schwarz. Students in the MBA International Management programmes (Full-Time and Part-Time) will soon get to know him in their lectures.

After studying economic sciences at the University of Witten/Herdecke Professor Schwarz went on to gain a master’s degree in Future Studies at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. In 2010 he was awarded a doctorate with a dissertation on the role of contemporary literature in strategic foresight at the Berlin University of the Arts. From 2010 to 2015 Professor Schwarz worked as a strategy consultant in Munich and London.

In 2015 Professor Schwarz was appointed Professor of General Management in the Department of Design at the Fresenius University in Munich and is taking up the professorship at ESB Business School at the beginning of the winter semester 19/20.
