Top result for Reutlingen University

On 9 June 2020, the latest edition of the internationally recognised university ranking Multirank was published. “U-Multirank“ compares around 1,800 universities worldwide. Reutlingen University achieved the top position “excellent“ in eleven categories. This represents a significant improvement over the previous year (top position in seven categories). Reutlingen University was particularly successful in the field of research. 

In addition, universities and universities of applied science which achieved the highest possible rating have been particularly highlighted. This year, Reutlingen is included in two of these “Top 25 Performing Universities“ lists: in the lists “contact to work environments“ and “co-publications with industrial partners“, Reutlingen University is one of the 25 best universities worldwide.

Top performance in series

“This is already the fourth top ranking result this year for Reutlingen University and its departments. After the ranking of the Wirtschaftswoche, the CHE Ranking and second place in the ranking for the strongest research universities in Baden-Württemberg, we are once again among the leading universities in international rankings”, says the President of the University, Professor Dr Hendrik Brumme, delighted with the latest results.

In the current ranking, the information for the business studies subject area has also been updated. ESB Business School was again able to underline its strengths with top scores in the categories “contact to work environments” and “international orientation”. “Our degree programmes offer numerous opportunities to live the ‘truly international’ spirit of ESB Business School“, comments Professor Dr Christoph Binder, Dean of ESB Business School, on the positive results: “Our many partner universities worldwide and the many international students on our campus are examples of how we value internationality”.  

Professor Harald Dallmann, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, is also extremely satisfied with the result: “The ranking reflects our strengths in the areas of practical relevance, teaching and internationality as a university of applied science, also in an international comparison, thus confirming our teaching and learning concept. This is a positive signal to all prospective students who can rely on this expertise when studying at Reutlingen University, even in these times”.


The seventh, annually published edition of U-Multirank is the largest since its launch in 2014. 1,800 universities and universities of applied sciences from 92 countries with more than 11,800 degree programmes from 28 subject areas participated. In Germany, more than 104 universities of applied science and universities took part. The multidimensional approach of U-Multirank offers a differentiated comparison of higher education institutions worldwide with their individual strengths and profiles. Individual indicators from five categories are rated from “A“ (very good) to “E“ (weak).
