Two reasons to celebrate for the Digital Industrial Management and Engineering (DIME) master’s programme and the ESB Logistics Learning Factory: In Braunschweig the ninth conference on learning factories was held and all the international DIME partners of ESB Business School are now members of the International Association of Learning Factories (IALF).

The ninth conference on learning factories was held at the Institute for Machine Tools and Production Technology IWF at Braunschweig University from 26 until 29 March 2019. More than 140 attendees from 24 countries came to Braunschweig to exchange views on the latest scientific findings in the field of learning factories.

The conference on Learning Factories (CLF) is an annual series of conferences with the objective of encouraging scientific exchange among the academic community at the most renowned universities as well as the promotion of cooperative research by presenting the latest research results and the development of new products. On three conference days the attendees gained an insight into the learning factory of the IWF and into the industrial applications of learning factories. 60 publications were approved by the scientific committee and presented and discussed at the conference in 13 sessions.

The ninth CIR-sponsored conference focused especially on the topics learning in Industry 4.0 with cyber physical production systems, sustainable production through learning factories, mixed reality and immersive learning environments, research-based learning as well as learning factories and interdisciplinary cooperation.

In advance of the conference, the annual general meeting of the “International Association of Learning Factories“ (IALF) was held on 26 March. Interest in learning factories has grown enormously worldwide over the past few years in the different areas of academic education, research as well as in companies and consulting services. The association consequently receives more and more enquiries regarding membership.

Professor Dr-Ing. Vera Hummel, professor at ESB Business School and founding member of the IALF, initiated in her role as patron for two cooperation partners in the Digital Industrial Management and Engineering (DIME) research master’s programmes the admission process at the end of last year. Both partners, the University of Malaysia Pahang UMP and Purdue University, USA, impressed the members with their current activities, publications and learning factories. With great joy the two DIME partners were accepted unanimously into the association and were given a warm welcome by the members.
