1.000 € raised from ESB masks

Students present donation to German Red Cross coronavirus emergency fund

By Katrin Reil

250 masks, orders from all over Germany and a donation of 1.000 euros to the Red Cross’ emergency fund – by selling ESB masks for a good cause, students in the BSc International Business programme gave themselves and others the best kind of Christmas present.

In a November interview, two IB students, Katja Friedrich and Nick Wilhelm, talked about the initiative.

Now, following the official handover of donations last Saturday, co-organizer Katja Friedrich takes stock. "We sent out over 500 emails in one week, stamped envelopes until late in the evening – while maintaining the required minimum distance of course – and our ordering system went into overdrive before the rush. It was really a lot of work, but it absolutely paid off. It's nice to see that we were able to spread some joy and ESB spirit despite the current critical situation."

The team keeps receiving pictures of proud ESB mask wearers, at work, at their internship company, or on a walk in the park. "A small idea to design new merchandise for IB students very quickly turned into a much bigger thing. It was definitely a challenge at times, but I'm all the more pleased that everything worked out the way we imagined it," says Katja Friedrich happily.
