Students from eleven countries begin their studies in Reutlingen
Roland Wintzen, the city’s finance mayor, welcomed the new students at the start of the academic year and introduced them to the town where they will be living and studying over the coming years.
For many, the start of the semester marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives – for some, even in a new country. A total of 88 double-degree students have enrolled in Reutlingen for the first semester, whilst a further 85 are starting their fifth semester following their transfer from their respective partner universities. They come from countries including Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland, France, the UK, China and North America.
The double-degree programme enables students to obtain a degree from both Reutlingen University and an international partner university. The diverse range of courses also opens up excellent career opportunities in Germany and abroad.
“By choosing to study here, you have made a good choice,” said Roland Wintzen, the city’s finance mayor, in his welcome address. He presented Reutlingen as a strong hub for business, higher education and quality of life.
“Reutlingen is the largest economic centre between Stuttgart and Lake Constance and a modern, dynamic hub for services and industry, with around 72,000 people in employment and some 5,300 businesses.”
At the same time, Wintzen highlighted the high quality of life. The historic old town, with its cafés, restaurants and shops, is just as inviting as the numerous cultural and leisure activities on offer. The town’s location within the Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve also offers ideal opportunities to relax in nature alongside your studies.
Prof. Dr Jörg Naeve, Dean of Studies at ESB Business School, echoed the words of the Councillor for Finance. He noted that, for many people, Reutlingen is not initially one of the cities they are keen to visit. However, those who have got to know the city often see things differently. At the same time, Naeve emphasised the good cooperation between the city and the university.
Following the official part of the event, the guests took the opportunity to chat over drinks and pastries in the foyer of the town hall.
