Business meets Art and History

Management Days in the MSc International Business Development and MSc International Accounting, Controlling and Taxation programmes

By Martina Traub-Kaiser

Company workshop instead of lecture: As in every semester, the MSc International Business Development (IBD) and MSc International Accounting, Controlling and Taxation (IACT) study programmes for a few days took a break from regular lectures. Six companies invited students to workshops and to get to know each other.

The consultants from Capgemini Invent brought along a case study that reflected real issues. The students were able to immerse themselves in the challenges of management consultants and ask themselves the question: Would this be something for me? The exchange with the speakers, most of whom had ESB experience, was particularly useful. The IACT students worked together in a workshop with experts from Deloitte on the challenging topic of capital consolidation.

Exciting insights into accounting were provided by PreZero Germany and Schwarz Dienstleistungen. The results of the case study on the topic “Acquisition of a new company in the waste disposal industry” led to interesting inputs.

Business and Art met the students during the excursion to the company Würth in Künzelsau. The intensive study of “sales in the age of digitisation” was loosened up by a visit to the wonderful art museum. The head of E-Business at Würth gave insights into how the interplay between trade and digitisation can succeed thanks to permanent further development and openness. His tip for the time after graduation: “You will need perseverance, flexibility and mobility.”

Business and History were shown by the museums at Kärcher and Porsche AG. The students were interested to learn what the success of both companies is based on and that results are still achieved with these values today. The topics of the workshops such as “3D Printing for Direct2Consumer Sales” or the lecture on “Specialist Sales Operations Individualisation”, on the other hand, sounded anything but historical.

“I hope you can see that we also enjoy days like these and that it motivates us to share our enthusiasm for Porsche and our jobs with interested students. It really was a very likeable and bright group”, was the feedback from one of the hosts.

The students were no less enthusiastic about the opportunities to get to know companies in this very individual way: “From our point of view, too, these were very special and successful days with many exciting impressions that we will certainly remember in a very positive way. Thank you very much for the great organisation and making the workshops possible!”

The students as well as the study programme teams of the MSc International Accounting, Controlling and Taxation and the MSc International Business Development programmes would like to express their sincere thanks for the great commitment of the companies in the preparation and implementation of the workshops.

“Once again, the alumni showed their deep attachment to ESB Business School. They make a significant contribution to enabling subsequent ESB graduates to gain these insights”, says Martina Traub-Kaiser, programme coordinator for both programmes.
