Top Placement in Master's Ranking

ESB Business School Master's programmes score highly in current CHE ranking

by Tina Schmidt

Reutlingen University achieves excellent results in this year's CHE Master’s Ranking in the field of business. The business Master's programmes occupy top positions in six categories - in terms of study support, courses offered, organization, the transition from Bachelor's to Master's programmes, support for studying abroad, and the general study situation. Master’s students in the MA European Management Studies, MSc International Business Development, International Accounting, Controlling and Taxation and MSc International Management programmes at ESB Business School were surveyed.

Overall, the Master's students said they were very satisfied with the general study situation. In particular, the spectrum of content and the interdisciplinary connections were given an excellent rating. The transition from Bachelor's to Master's programmes was also rated very highly, for example the support the university provides with formal procedures at the beginning of Master's programmes and with completing the program within the expected time.

The Master’s students surveyed said they were particularly satisfied despite having to study under coronavirus conditions. General satisfaction with crisis management at Reutlingen University was 100 percent. This was confirmed by a special evaluation of the CHE on the coronavirus situation, referring to the 2020 summer semester. The ability to continue and complete studies as planned despite the pandemic, as well as the contact and professional exchange with lecturers, and the availability of central contact persons were rated by all respondents as very good. The technical framework for online courses, the variety of online teaching formats, and the opportunities for subject-specific exchange among students were also rated very highly.

The hybrid solution with which the ESB Business School started the winter semester should also be highlighted. While adhering to current infection prevention regulations, this concept enabled a sensible and targeted mix of classroom and online teaching. Professor Christoph Binder, Dean of ESB Business School, underscores that the model met with a positive response. “The ESB Business School hybrid model enabled us to give new students in particular the opportunity to experience the campus and the unmistakable spirit of ESB Business School. We are pleased that the staggered start of studies and staggered lecture times has been perceived so positively.”

“We are very pleased with the excellent results for the Business Administration Master's programmes in the current CHE Master's Ranking; they confirm our teaching concept. They are a very good signal to prospective students, who can expect excellent teaching, a high degree of practical relevance and outstanding study conditions at Reutlingen University. Even in these times, you can rely on this expertise when studying at Reutlingen University,” says Professor Harald Dallmann, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Reutlingen University.

The students were surveyed in summer semester 2020. The ratings are almost the same as in the 2017 survey and are above the average of all universities in the categories mentioned, with ratings in the top group.
